2004
-
- 14 September 2004 onwards.
- We spent about a week in St Jean de
Losne on Albert - winterising, and arranging - hopefully - for 2 jobs to be
done in our absence, servicing of our starter motor (every now and again I
have to descend into the
engine compartment and hit it smartly with a
hammer) and the injectors (the exhaust smokes with that evil diesel engine
smoke).
- Then up the peage onto
the ferry at le Havre to Portsmouth,
placid, boat nearly empty - so I should hope, considering the prices P &
O charge!
- Straight from Portsmouth to Island
Ferries at the other end of Portsmouth. Friday afternoon by now,
and all the world and his wife, dog and aunt was traveling, and the Island ferries
were running three quarters of an hour late. We boarded with a
seething crowd of people, and home by dusk - and guess what?
- Our flat tenant was still in
residence! Or at least his kit was. The estate
agent - claiming she had tried to contact us (everybody else got through
OK(?) - let him stay on on an ad hoc basis week by week.
- Anyway, between us we cleared him into
one room, and on his return next day, right out, and a major deisaster
became a minor glitch. Flat was clean!
-
- Photographs.
- I have discovered, since setting up my
computert in the house, that the screen is much brighter here than it was in
France.
- In France I was slightly darkening,
and upping the contrast, on virtually all the pictures I put on the
web. This would appear to have been not only unnecessary, but
undesirable.
- Hence, most of my photos are too dark.
- Sorry.
- Does anyone have any comments about
the cause? The screen - presumably the culprit - is powered
through a black box plug transformer. This in turn was supplied
sometimes with current from the invertor, but usually I only used it for
photos, etc, when on shore power.
- The computer on the boat was neither
in a dark or overlit spot. At home, likewise!
