26 May, Friday, Artaix, Canal Roanne a Digoin
Looked in mirror when I lost a honey sandwich stuck to my face.   Beard and hair totally out of control.   Set mirror up on picnic table, and attacked face while trying to hide from camping car folk.   Big relief, but no wonder the 2 boats that called in appeared a little nervous of me.   Hair will have to wait for Roanne.

27th May, Saturday, Artaix, Canal Roanne a Digoin
This has been a frustrating period moored up at very good mooring in Artaix, trying to clean and tidy boat in between rain and wind storms.
Lived quite comfortably - electricity and water both available on moorings, and a new epicerie (probably not new at all, but since our last visit 2 years ago) has opened up in the village, 10 minutes cycle ride away - and except on Tues and Fris has bread and a few basics - old tomatoes, cans of veg, etc, and eggs (think I talked about this last week - going dilly!).   The other 2 days a bread van comes round between 9 and 11 a.m.
All things considered - and despite the close supervision of unbelievably impertinent camping car people (drive up close, get camping chairs and table out, set up with nasty little radio and just sit like tired jellies watching me work) got a lot done, and boat beginning to look presentable.

28th May, Sunday, Artaix to Briennon, Canal Roanne a Digoin
It was great to be moving again - been so long that couldn't remember where my fenders were but thought I should have one more than I did have so was unsure whether one had been stolen, drifted away, or whether I didn't have that number in the first place.
dscf3235incompanybriennon.jpg (66038 bytes)Stopped at our old friends "la Petite Mariniere" at Iguerand for lunch then drifted into Briennon and found the 2 best moorings - on the grass just before the entrance to the port itself free.  No electricity required, so free mooring.
In fact still time to get to Roanne - but comfortable there, so stopped.
Weather still dreary - very cold, windy and frequent rain storms.
Later joined by another Narrow Boat.
